Like uj , I have 10K in itunes, about half GD/Jerry. It is a major pain in the butt the way itunes is configured. It leads to much clicking and dragging and a really long play list to the left. It took a long time to go through and make play lists of individual shows and I still have shows I have not created a play list for. I make an effort to listen to everything once a year and I still had thousands of unlistened to songs this year. I know it's like pouting during a bumper crop. We are lucky to have such problems.

itunes and Netflix are just begging for competition as they both have not upgraded formats (and in Netflix case, reduced service while maintaining their price points). I am looking to jump ship on both. Come on entrepreneurs!

10k what? Albums?!?

Edit: Ok, I'm guessing you mean tunes. (Though hereabouts, people COULD have 10k albums of various things, so maybe you do ...) You probably know this, but if you click on View and organize by Grid, the shows will appear as albums. (And other albums will appear as albums, too, of course.) That way there's no dragging and dropping, and you don't need playlists on the left. Though sensible playlists would be nice, since they'd function as categories.

I believe I am echoing what DH says, but...let's say (hypothetically) someone has all soundboards 66 - 84. Create Genres like 68 GD, 69 GD, etc. Then multiple select (shift-click) all 69 soundboards and label with 69 GD Genre. In View, make sure Genre is selected, then sort by Genre and/or Search by 69 GD and viola!

Did this make any sense? It is how I do it.

What Utopian said. Right-click a song and then click Get Info. On the Info tab, you can select a Genre at the bottom of the page. I think you can even type in new genres and it will auto-save it. To lighten the load, you can select multiple songs (multiple albums worth) and then do the Get Info bit. Once you got that, create a Playlist for a Genre. Then sort your list by genre by clicking the Genre column heading. After that, you can multiple-select the genre and drag the songs to the created Playlist. And then you can do the Shuffle. Hope this is what you're looking for.
